For example, Toyota added a second assembly plant to its manufacturing complex near Princeton bringing its total investment in Southwest Indiana to $2.8 billion since 1996.
Evansville is the largest city in the Evansville, IN-Henderson, KY metropolitan area (MSA) and the hub of a 20 county tri-state region (Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois). The population of the 6 county metropolitan area is 345,900 and the region has a population of over 717,000. The population within 30 miles of Evansville is more than 435,000 and the regional workforce is well over 200,000.
In addition to being a hub for major manufacturers, Evansville is the center of retailing, banking and financial services, medical services and entertainment. The large scale manufacturing facilities in the region have spawned the growth of companies that provide support services such as: automation and process control, industrial motor repair, machine shops, pattern and mold shops and more.
The earnings of workers employed in manufacturing have stimulated activity in retailing and services and have also fueled a great deal of growth in housing.
